Around 16 kilometers north of the Venkateswara Swamy temple in Tirumala lies Tumburu Teertham. This sacred site is associated with the final moments of Venkamamba, a devotee of Lord Venkateswara, who is believed to have attained enlightenment while meditating here. According to legend, a calamity in the Tirumala Hills split a hill into two, leading to the emergence of Tumburu Teertham. This Teertham is accessible only on Falguna Purnima Day. Over the years, it has remained a significant pilgrimage destination, attracting devotees seeking spiritual solace and blessings from the divine.
Once, a celestial musician named Tumburu prayed to sages to reveal the path to attaining salvation. He bathed in this sacred water in Tirumala and meditated, eventually attaining liberation. This Teertham came to be known as Tumburu Teertham in his honor. Therefore, many devotees visiting Tirumala also bathe in this teertham, seeking spiritual purification.
Tumburu Teertham can be reached by buses from Tirumala, starting from the pilgrimage town to the site. It involves a journey of several kilometers through hills, valleys, streams, and forests. The Teertham is especially significant as it is believed to be endowed with spiritual energy. Devotees visit it seeking spiritual purification, and the annual Falguna Purnima day is considered auspicious for a pilgrimage here. Located amidst the wilderness of Seshachalam Hills, this journey offers devotees a unique and profound spiritual experience, starting from cleansing oneself of sins to traversing through hills and forests.
తిరుమలలోని వెంకటేశ్వర స్వామి ఆలయానికి ఉత్తరదిశలో, సుమారు 16 కిలోమీటర్ల దూరంలో ఉంది తుంబురతీర్థం. తుంబురుడి పేరుమీద వెలసిన ఈ తీర్థంలోనే స్వామి భక్తురాలైన తరిగొండ వెంగమాంబ తన అంతిమ ఘట్టం స్వామి ధ్యానంలో గడిపిందన్న నిదర్శనాలు నేటికీ అక్కడ ఉన్నాయి. కొన్ని వేల సంవత్సరాల క్రితం తిరుమల కొండల్లో ఒక ప్రళయం వచ్చింది. అప్పుడు ఒక కొండ రెండుగా చీలిపోవడం వల్ల తుంబురతీర్థం ఏర్పడింధి[2]. ఫాల్గుణ పౌర్ణమి నాడు మాత్రమే ఈ ప్రాంతానికి వెళ్ళడానికి అనుమతిస్తారు
పూర్వం ‘తుంబురుడు’ అనే ఒక గంధర్వుడు మోక్షాన్ని పొందే మార్గాన్ని చెప్పమని మహర్షులను ప్రార్ధించాడట. తిరుమలలోని ఈ తీర్థంలో స్నానమాచరించమని వాళ్లు సెలవివ్వడంతో, అలాగే చేసిన ఆ గంధర్వుడు మోక్షాన్ని పొందాడట. ‘తుంబురుడు’ మోక్షాన్ని పొందిన తీర్థం కనుక, ఈ తీర్థానికి ‘తుంబుర తీర్థం’ అనే పేరు వచ్చింది. ఈ కారణంగానే తిరుమల వెళ్లిన భక్తులలో కొందరు, ఈ తీర్థానికి చేరుకుని అందులో స్నానమాచరిస్తుంటారు[3].
తుంబురు తీర్థం తిరుమల నుంచి పాపవినాశనం వరకు బస్సుల్లో చేరుకోవచ్చు. అక్కడ నుండి నాలుగు కిలోమీటర్ల కొండలు, కోనలు, రాళ్లు, రప్పలు దాటి, నడకద్వారా ఈ తీర్థానికి చేరుకోవాలి. ప్రతి ఏడాది ఫాల్గుణ మాసంలో ఉత్తర ఫల్గుణి నక్షత్రంతో కూడిన పౌర్ణమి రోజున మాత్రమే దర్శనికి భక్తుల ప్రాంతంగా మారిన ఈ తీర్థం .శేషాచలం అడవుల్లో ఉంటుంది. తిరుమలకి ఉత్తరం వైపున ఉండే ఈ తీర్థం విశిష్టత ఎన్నో విశేషాలకు మరియు ఆధ్యాత్మిక శక్తికి నిలయం. పాపవినాశనం నుంచి కొండలు మరియు అడవుల మధ్య నడిచి చేరాల్సిన ఈ ప్రయాణం భక్తులకు ఒక అద్వితీయ అనుభవంగా ఉంటుంది
